How come I didn’t notice all this flammable stuff in my room before…? Woe is meeee. I think Alex is a pyro, too. SHHHHH!!!!1!
She doesn’t want me to talk about it. But she says hi!I just talked to Alex. She’s at my dorm with me.
Hey there, sweetheart. Is she now? What’s she saying?
I just talked to Alex. She’s at my dorm with me.
The anger raging inside Drew was boiling his blood. Every limb attached to his body was shaking. He wouldn’t believe anyone until he saw the proof himself, he couldn’t.
Maybe the story was a lie, and maybe it wasn’t. But… He’d smelt it. That smell that had remained sealed in his nose ever since that fire that had killed Mrs. Mancini. No, no. They’re stupid. They don’t know anything. Alex might be away, whatever those girls found could have been anything else, and it could have been there for years. Who knew what had happened or what they had found? Drew needed to know.
The boy grabbed an old jacket of his brother’s, having stayed the night at the house. He put it on and pulled the hood up, zipping it up all the way before walking outside. Sure, the heat added with the jacket was enough to kill a small child, but he didn’t need to be bothered by any of Alex’s friends.
As his feet hit the pavement, his ankle throbbed a bit more. It was sprained from the explosion, but he didn’t care. Everything else was more important. He shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans and cringed when his fingers touched the crinkled paper he’d forgotten was in there: the note from -A.
Evidence to show all those bitches that he didn’t want her to be there. He didn’t know she was. But he should’ve known. He should’ve known -A had something up their sleeve. An angry grunt left his lips as he walked faster, ignoring the pain throbbing through his leg. He needed that proof.
Drew’s steps slowed as the soles of his shoes made a poof of ashes rise up around his feet. He slipped past the police tape easily - This was it, he was about to find out.
Gradually, he walked past the melted gate, remembering checking the lock before the explosion. The thought made him shiver slightly. As he made his way to the opening in the side of the warehouse, where a wall had been blown, he took a deep breath. The small hint of burning flesh still floated in the air. It was his imagination, right? But he felt himself go weak as he saw the badly burnt body laying near where a door was.
He fell to his knees and looked carefully at what was left of the human. Obviously, it was a blonde girl - some of her hair was still there. That’s really all he needed. If her friends were sure it was her, and police had already been there… It was Alex.
His body began to shake uncontrollably as he fell back onto his hands, scooting back toward the closest wall. Anything to hold his weight. “Alex.. N-no. I didn’t do this. I wasn’t.. I didn’t do this. I didn’t…”
Everything started to happen at once: all the food in his stomach moved up his throat and out his mouth, his heart pounded in his chest, tears began to pour out of his eyes, and hallucinations started to take over. One minute he was throwing up inside the burned warehouse, then he was at the Samuels’ house, watching Bambi talk to him. The last thing he saw before things went black? He and Alex dancing at the Valentine’s Day Dance.
